uNembeza
The First Voice
uNembeza is the first completed remix from The House of Urban Zulu and the opening musical statement of District One.
The remix reinterprets "Yehlisani Umoya," the opening song from Busi Mhlongo's original Urban Zulu album.
The choice is significant. The House begins its musical journey where the original album began.
The Message
uNembeza means conscience — the inner moral compass.
At the heart of the song is Ubuntu: the belief that our humanity is connected to the humanity of others.
The original recording carries a powerful message of peace and resistance to violence. For Kinn Timo, that message remains deeply relevant, particularly as a voice for women facing injustice.
The song asks us to consider something simple:
Can we confront conflict without losing our humanity?
Carrying the Message Forward
Kinn Timo's approach was not to replace the original recording, but to respond to it.
The vocal remains largely untouched.
Everything around it has been rebuilt.
The energy of the original led naturally towards house music, becoming an exploration of a raw Afrotech sound that Kinn Timo sees as an important part of the musical direction of The House of Urban Zulu.
The response to the original is simple:
"Thank you for the message. Now let me carry it forward."
The Dance
uNembeza is ultimately about connection.
It is music for people to move together, share a space and experience something collectively.
The hope is that the listener leaves the song moved and inspired—not only by the music, but by the possibility of choosing peaceful ways to resolve conflict.
uNembeza is about Ubuntu, conscience and finding peaceful ways to resolve conflict.
