The Singles Two

THE SINGLES TWO Lefa (Inheritance) is Nelson Mailula, aka Osaze's, musical journey. Music became part of his life at the age of six when he learned to play keyboards wherever he could. The rhythms of Pedi culture, church music and traditional drumming shaped his musical identity. Singing followed naturally before his brother introduced him to music production, where Osaze developed his distinctive sound by blending tribal rhythms with contemporary electronic music. His studies at the Soul Candi Institute further refined his craft.

The Lefa project is introduced through three singles leading to the full EP release. The second and very chilled single, Kwaxabana (Osaze Remix), is based on Oxamu, the traditional a cappella song by Mam' Busi Mhlongo. It's from her classic album Urbanzulu.

The lyrics tell the story of two monitor lizards who fall into a heated argument. A Khoi man comes across them and, instead of resolving the conflict, manipulates both by bribing them with a piece of meat. The story is an important metaphor for division, conflict and manipulation within communities. The song is often celebrated for its use of the distinctive click consonants of the Xhosa language.

Mixed and mastered by Kinn Timo, the production further establishes Osaze as one of South Africa's leading new Afro House producers. His collaborations include Black Motion, Mörda, Dr Moruti, Bucie, Nokwazi, Nadia Nakai, Bongi Silinda and Mazet SA. Through Lefa, Osaze pays tribute to South Africa's musical heritage while presenting it to a new generation.
