After numerous recordings and tours across Southern Africa with multinational band members led by Bluesman Madala Kunene, Swiss guitarist and producer Carlo Menet, aka Sixela, is revisiting their collaborative work.

Sixela selected to rework ‘uMvelinqangi” – one of Madala Kunene’s songs which is deeply rooted in his Zulu folklore – a prayer of seeking forgiveness and spiritual reflection.

In his debut release, Sixela highlights his expressive guitar and vibrant production, adding his own colours to the track while honouring the raw spirit of the original, characterised by Kunene’s trance-like acoustic guitar.

Sung in isiZulu, ‘uMvelinqangi” is a heartfelt plea for reconciliation with a higher, universal force. Sixela amplifies this plea with haunting guitar melodies and punchy grooves, weaving it into a contemporary soundscape.
