2025-03-07

YESCENE
Morocco-born and London-based artist Yescene has been making steady progress in the house music industry since his self-released debut single Alone Again in 2018. His growing discography includes original tracks and remixes released on legendary house music labels such as King Street Sounds, Moblack Records, Mood Funk Records, Blockhead Records, Deepalma, and Vivifier Records. Yescene's music has gained recognition from top DJs and producers, including Black Coffee, Stonebridge, Low Steppa, Angelo Ferreri, Sebb Junior, and Lizzie Curious.
2025 promises to be a pivotal year for Yescene, with new collaborations, music releases, and performances across Morocco and the UK.
Yescene's first remix for M2KR (MELT2000 REVISITED) is Wa Mpona by the late Taiwa. Molelekwa's innovative genre-blending and Kwaito-infused Wa Mpona, aligns perfectly with Yescene's talent for crafting unique and vibrant electronic productions.

SIBU MANZINI
M2KR welcomes Sibu Manzini to the growing guest DJ's who revisit the works of their musical heroes presenting here a new outlook on Moses Molelekwa's hit Wa Mpona. Manizini , formerly known as Parcel SWZ, is a producer and DJ from Mbabane in the Southern African Kingdom of Eswatini. Born in 1994 his musical ear was developed in his early childhood
through singing chorale and gospel music in church. Djing for his peers Sibu Manzini's career was established in 2018.
Sibu's signature sound is diverse but centres around a spectrum of electronic music and Afro House. International collaboration with
Brazilian band Ima with the song 'Mangueador lead to him being featured on the film score of a Brazilian short film "Os dias depois" (2020).
One of his Manzini's proudest achievements is working on the post production for Dj Ganyani's single "Emakhaya" feat Sino Smolo and Kwesta.

SHAMROCK GUITOR
Shamrock who already shared Moses's GENES & SPIRITS remix on Episode Three in 2024 today shares with us another Moses classic - RAPELA.
Shamrock Ndala, from Springs Kwathema in Johannesburg, showcases Moses Taiwa Molelekwa's influence through his fusion of live guitar and house music. He stands out as one of the few artists who perform live house music by simultaneously mixing and playing guitar, earning him the moniker "Shamrock Guitor." This innovative approach has marked his distinct presence in the music scene.

TREVOR MAKO
Trevor Mako, whose real name is Dumisani Trevor Maseko, is an experienced multifaceted artist—singer, musician, bassist, guitarist, lyricist, sound engineer, music producer, and videographer. His soulful remix of "Ukuthula" from the late South African diva Busi Mhlongo's groundbreaking album Urbanzulu was a standout piece of the 2024 Series of M2KR remixes.
For the REMIXES 2025 SERIES Trevor's choice of a dedication song to the late Moses Taiwa Molelekwa work had to be the Kwaito inspired song WA MPONA. Originally recorded as part of the 1997 GENES & SPIRITS album, the track got dropped from the album due to concerns that it might be too "Kwaito'ish" for a serious Jazz album. I never quite understood why until later so after Taiwa's premature death I released WA MPONA as part of a compilation. Together with TSALA the Kwaito infused WA MPONA soon became the prime choice of many Afro House DJ's and remixers.

SPHECIFIC
Sphecific is based in Kagiso in the West Rand of Gauteng, South Africa. As a talented DJ/Producer, he is a key member of the Mzansi Deep Podcast and the curator of Life After Lockdown/No Grinderz. Renowned for his exceptional taste in underground sounds of Deep House and Dub Techno, he is recognized as one of the city's most respected DJs.
Sphecific is seen as a future legend, sharing countless stories through his craft and genuine spirit.

MAK MANAKA WITH MADALA KUNENE
For many years the Ghost of a Genes & Spirits remix version was filed away deep in the heart of a MELT2000 hard drive offering absolutely no clue as to the origins of the remix and the featured poet.

The voice sounded very familiar but I only connected after I found a 2016 photo of Mak Manaka with Madala Kunene at Afrika Freedom Station in Johannesburg.

In 2024 I sent the remix to DJ Nicky B from Kaya FM who came back after a couple of minutes to confirm that it is indeed Mak Manaka and so the Ghost of the Theatre story was resolved !

With over 20 years of experience as a poet, editor, and teacher, Mak serves as the creative director and projects manager at Manaka Publications, a company dedicated to promoting and supporting both emerging and established artists in the performing arts industry. He is responsible for overseeing the artistic vision, strategy, and execution of various projects, including festivals, workshops, publications, and collaborations.
Manaka has a strong background in media and communication, with skills in social media, event planning, event management and public speaking. He lectured in creative writing, reading, and listening at Rhodes University, sharing his knowledge and passion for poetry and literature with students.
