Eyedentity — The Legacy on Electric MELT
Diana and Krishna Booker, the creative forces behind Eyedentity, are the children of Brazilian and American jazz royalty. Diana is the daughter of legendary Brazilian vocalist Flora Purim and percussionist Airto Moreira, while Krishna is the son of acclaimed New York jazz bassist Walter Booker, known for his work with Cannonball Adderley, Sarah Vaughan, and other greats. Together they represent a direct continuation of two major jazz lineages — Brazilian rhythm and American improvisation — carried forward into the sound of a new millennium.
With Eyedentity, the couple forged a distinctive fusion of trip-hop, jazz, hip-hop and Brazilian soul, blending improvisation with deep groove and cinematic atmosphere. Their debut album See was released in the UK and Europe on Electric MELT, a forward-looking imprint of MELT 2000 created to showcase genre-defying artists. The album introduced a lush, rhythmic sound — soulful vocals layered with poetic rap, live percussion and electronic textures — capturing the global urban spirit that defined the late 1990s.
Their follow-up, Perfect My Craft, further expanded the group’s palette, combining organic instrumentation with experimental production while maintaining the emotional honesty at the core of their music. Both albums reflect the moment when MELT 2000 was broadening its scope from world and jazz recordings into new hybrid forms that connected continents and generations.
Robert Trunz, founder and label boss of MELT 2000, recalls:
“Working with Diana and Krishna came at one of the most creative times in the mid-’90s. The depth of the lyrics they wrote is only being recognised two decades later. I hope to give a younger generation an insight into their work by releasing a series of remixes on M2KR.”
