SHAHROKH DINI

Berlin's Deep House Visionary

Born in Tehran during the Shah era, Shahrokh Dini completed his high school diploma in Iran before relocating to Germany following the regime change. This bicultural journey would become the foundation of his unique artistic identity. His ability to blend influences from his Iranian childhood with his German upbringing has created a distinctive sound unlike any other DJ, infused with what he describes as the melancholy and appreciation for poetry inherent to Persian culture.

Beginning his DJ career in 1990, Shahrokh spent his early years developing his craft in German clubs. By 1995, he had made a significant impact on the house music scene and was quickly recognized for his potential as an international figure. His 1997 debut EP "Deff Punch/Roya" on Black Flame Records received critical acclaim, followed by "Phunk Communication" on Caus-N'-ff-ct Records, which caught the attention of London's exclusive Miss Moneypenny's.

During the late 1990s and 2000s, working as Shahrokh Sound of K with production partner Andreas Köhler, he created some of his most celebrated tracks. His revolutionary "Owlflight" received rave reviews from influential DJs like Rainer Trüby, Peter Kruder, Atjazz, Sasse, and Âme. His work extended beyond club tracks, with "Yo Yomma" appearing on Wolfgang Peterson's "Stargate" soundtrack and remixes for Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor on the "DJ Empire – A Tribute To Giorgio Moroder" project.

Beyond music production, Shahrokh established himself as a visionary club impresario. His Mood Lounge became renowned, featuring Âme as regular residents and attracting luminaries from DJ Deep to King Britt and Peter Kruder. He created several venues including Monk and the Mood Lounge & Music Club in Karlsruhe, and collaborated with the prestigious ZKM (Center for Art and Media) on the After Art Party.

In November 2008, Shahrokh released his debut album "Dripping Point", a carefully crafted blend of Garage, Afro, House, Jazz, and Discofunk featuring collaborations with Jamie Lloyd, Siri Svegler, and the legendary Robert Owens. The album received widespread acclaim in De:Bug, Groove, Raveline, XLR8R, and DJ Magazine.

Since then, Shahrokh has become a prolific contributor to Munich's Compost Records, particularly their Black Label series, releasing numerous EPs throughout the 2010s and 2020s. Recent highlights include 2022's "Now We Can Dance" EP with vocalist Illinois and 2023's remix package featuring reworks by Lehar, David Mayer, Tooker, and other respected producers, alongside the spiritual "Ubuntu" EP.

Throughout his career, his releases on labels including Sasse's Moodmusic, Miss Moneypenny Records, Strictly Rhythm, Ministry Of Sound, and Compost Black Label have been supported by Ron Trent, Âme, Laurent Garnier, Solomun, Maceo Plex, and Steve Bug. He has remixed for Automat, Robert Owens, Marbert Rocel, and Niki Harris (Madonna's background singer), and collaborated with talents including Tikiman, Barbara Tucker, and Jamie Lloyd.

Now based in Berlin, Shahrokh continues to perform internationally. Every summer he plays at renowned venues including Ibiza's Akasha and Las Dalias, and in Berlin at the Garden of Babylon parties. His DJ sets seamlessly move through deep house, Detroit techno, and disco, always maintaining soulful roots with contemporary facets.

From Tehran to Berlin, from his first residencies in 1990 to his current status as a respected producer and label artist, Shahrokh Dini has built a thirty-five-year career on authenticity and musical vision. His work represents the global nature of house music itself—a genre that celebrates cultural fusion and the universal language of the dance floor.
