About Album
Cândido Salomão Zango, aka “Matchume,” has dedicated himself to Mozambican traditional music and dance since the age of six and began to study music and to handcraft his own instruments such as timbila, mbira, xitende an djembe drums.
Over a period of fifteen years young Matchume toured the world as a performing musician and composer of traditional, experimental and fusion music. His debut album is a reflection on how to integrate Matchume’s funky style melting it with what traditional music he was thought. 8 tracks were recorded with musicians from mainly Mozambique such as Chitende, Tinoca Zimba, Djibra Mussa, Max Kapacete Kanynda, Alex Gulele and Jorge Cesar. The track Fela Matchume is a result of an international collaboration with FOREST JAM and was recorded at Matchume’s studio in Maputo featuring Nicky Shange, Cyril Michel, Julian Dillier, Lerato Lichaba,Carlo Menet, Matthias Abaecherli & Gontse Makhene.
