Uxolo = Peace
Whilst many South African live music venues closed in the early years of the new 21st century digitally produced dance music and DJ’s replaced performing musicians. The few remaining gigs paid badly and many of our finet artists went hungry and there were bad feelings and arguments among even the best of friends in Zululand. When in 2004 I heard of the trouble brewing I picked up Mabi Thobejane from Pretoria and equipped with a portable DAT recorder & a couple of microphones we headed for KZN to seek peace between the bickering factions by using music as a medium for negotiation. The album Uxolo is the result of this mission with mostly unplugged stereo recordings.
